Add a Facebook “Like” Button to Your WordPress Posts

I know you’re sick of hearing it by now, so I’ll just say it this one last time — until the next time! — social bookmarking is the SEO of the future. When someone votes for or “likes” your blog posts, it indicates that your posts have value to them. I am convinced that this helps to increase your search engine ranking in competitive areas, so it is extremely important to make sure that your website is very well integrated with all of the social bookmarking services that your readers are likely to use.

Facebook has hundreds of millions of users, and it is quite likely that your readers are among them. You may have seen the ubiquitous Facebook “Like” button as you have browsed the Web; when someone clicks a Facebook “Like” button, it automatically adds a link to their social networking profiles. Their friends see the link as well, and before you know it, a great blog post can catch on  like wildfire and receive thousands of hits. Add a Facebook “Like” button to your blog posts with this free WordPress plugin.

  1. Log in to the WordPress admin page for your website.
  2. Click the “Plugins” link on the left side of the page.
  3. Click the “Add New” button.
  4. Type “simple Facebook like” in the search box and press “Enter.”
  5. Click the “Install Now” link under “Simple Facebook Like.”
  6. Click “OK.”
  7. Click “Activate Plugin.”
  8. Click the “Settings” link on the left side of the page, and then click “Simple Facebook Like.”
  9. Click the drop-down menu next to “Position” to indicate whether the Facebook “Like” button should show up before or after your posts. If you use Elegant Themes, I highly recommend selecting “After.”
  10. Click “Update Options.” Readers will be shown the button to “Like” your posts on Facebook immediately.
